Blackout Curtain
Thermal Curtains versus Blackout Curtains
Linings play a very important role when looking at window coverings. They can act as an insulator, thus doubling as thermal curtains. Shielding from the light is another function, creating blackout curtains. Last but not least, they can partially block out sound, creating insulating curtains. Thus you can see that lining can play a big part, when choosing the right covering for your windows.
In the case of blackout curtains, blackout lining is used to line the drapery. There are two kinds of lining, namely 100% blackout linings, or alternatively 50% dim out lining. Both of these will provide sufficient blockage of sunlight. The 100% blackout will prevent all sunlight from entering your windows. The 50% dim-out lining, will only dim the sunlight when entering through your windows. However, these linings will give you more protection from the sun than conventional sateen or cotton linings. Another benefit you’ will get from these linings is the protection of your fabric from UV Rays.
By adding very heavy interlining in between your curtain and your lining, you can easily create insulated curtains. A thick flannel interlining can help preserve the life of your drapery panels. In addition, they will help block the heat and the cold in your windows. A heavy English bump interlining will keep noise as well as the heat in the summer and the cold air in the winter.
